DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY
The Department was established in 1956. It offers B.Sc Botany course and Horticulture as the open course. The role of Botany as a branch of study is gaining more and more relevance and significance in this post-modern era. Directly related to plant life and ecology, it touches all aspects of human existence as plants are the sustaining force of life in this universe. Our aim in teaching this subject is to impart in our students a love towards plants, an awareness of the need to protect and preserve the infinite variety of flora, to encourage the young minds to take up research in this field, to promote sustainable development, to conscentize our students on the adverse impact of technology and industrialization and ultimately to work for the building up of a society based on the values of love and truth.
The present generation is no doubt nature conscious but as botanists we feel that our contribution to this cause is greater as we are more in communion with nature. With this conviction we move ahead with our mission to save our soil, to save our water, and in turn save nature. The co-curricular and the extension activities undertaken by the department reflect this goal.
